Stem Cell Therapy
The new natural treatment of erectile dysfunction
Stem cell therapy for the treatment of erectile dysfunction consists in the injection of mesenchymal stem cells, a type of stem cells capable of self-renewal and of differentiating into multiple cell types.
Mesenchymal stem cells can be obtained from the same tissues they form (eg: bone marrow, muscle tissue, skin, cartilage, bone, fallopian tissue, umbilical cord blood and menstrual blood). However, they are characterized by properties comparable to those of embryonic stem cells, without the ethical problems or oncogenic potential associated to the latter.
Among others, mesenchymal stem cells derived from adipose tissue have been receiving particular interest because of their advantages, namely abundance of autologous sources, ease of isolation, and possibility to expand. In particular, high numbers of adipose-derived stem cells can be obtained by expanding cells isolated from excess fat tissue from procedures of liposuction.
